Pinchev starts as Acronis President and CEO
Alex Pinchev, former President, Global Sales, Services and Field Marketing at Red Hat, has begun his tenure as President and Chief Executive Officer at Acronis. “Acronis has built its reputation on providing easy-to-use, cost effective solutions for data protection, backup and disaster recovery for government organizations, businesses and home users worldwide,” said Pinchev. “As we enter the next phase of the company’s growth, we have a very strong customer base, a great partner ecosystem, talented team and a portfolio of intellectual property that will be leveraged to take advantage of the growing opportunity within the virtualization and cloud markets.”

Optus appoints Russell COO
Optus has announced the appointment of Kevin Russell to the role of Chief Operating Officer with immediate effect. Russell, who was most recently Chief Executive of mobile operator Hutchison Three in the United Kingdom, is an experienced Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer with both international as well as Australian experience. In this new role, Russell will be responsible for the day to day operations of the mass market segments of Optus’ business as well as the Wholesale and Satellite division. As such he will be responsible for the Optus Consumer, Optus Small and Medium Business, and the Optus Wholesale and Satellite businesses as well as Optus’ wholly owned subsidiary, Virgin Mobile. Mr Russell will report to Optus Chief Executive, Paul O’Sullivan. Russell said in a released statement: “I’m returning to Australia at a very exciting time in the telecoms industry with the roll-out of 4G and the National Broadband Network both gathering pace. I’m looking forward to working with Paul and the Optus team to take full advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead.”

Ninefold appoints Dawson as Technical Engagement Manager
Ninefold, the Australian cloud computing and public cloud storage company, has appointed Edwin Dawson as Technical Engagement Manager, starting immediately. He joins the Marketing team to work closely with Ninefold’s Development, Product, Sales and Support teams, holding responsibility for the entire feel and voice of Ninefold’s customer-facing documentation together with the development of  a new program of educational materials. Previously, he spent four years as Team Leader of the Technical Writing team at Atlassian, the Sydney-based enterprise social software success story.  Prior to Atlassian, Dawson was Editor-in-Chief at Haymarket Media’s national computing title, PC Authority. Commenting on his appointment Dawson said: “Ninefold is red hot right now—a light-speed, high-tech Australian cloud. I’m very excited about engaging with its entrepreneurial customers and finding ways to make the customer experience seamless. I’ll also be going full steam ahead to produce a fresh, industry-leading onboarding program.”

ComOps appoints GM of Development
ComOps, a leading Australasian provider of business software products and services, has announced the appointment of Don Fletcher as General Manager of Development. Fletcher has more than 15 years of research and development experience in the IT industry and joins ComOps with strong skills in the technical, financial and marketing aspects of deploying complex business systems. In his new role, Fletcher will be responsible for the strategic direction and development of the ComOps product roadmap, including its ERP, Business Intelligence, Mobile Sales Force Automation, eCommerce, Retail, Risk Management & Safety Compliance, Workforce Management and Human Capital Management solutions. Fletcher was previously ERP Solutions Architect and Developer at McWilliams Wines.  Within this role which he held for five years Fletcher was responsible for the development and deployment of the company’s ERP platform to meet the organisation’s complex production and grape traceability requirements. Prior, he was a Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Clear Objective, a Brisbane-based ERP company. During this time, Fletcher was responsible for the design, architecture and development of the company’s ERP system in the mid-range market across multiple industries.

Logica targets Browne to lead defence sector push
Logica Australia has announced Dehann Browne has joined the company as Client Executive for Defence based in Canberra.  Her role will focus on supporting Logica’s expansion in the defence sector. “There are at least 15 defence agencies in Australia and a number of associated suppliers which require complex and highly specific computing technology and project management expertise,” said Darren Covington, Director, Public Sector. “Logica has the experience and local expertise required to manage defence clients. Our office in Canberra has been expanding and Dehann will also coordinate with our global defence team which supports clients in Europe, UK and Nordics.”Dehann Browne said: “It will be terrific to work with some of the renowned Logica defence specialists to deliver complex projects and provide support to mission critical systems.”
